Smell

Ian's sense of smell is apparently very important to him. We've been trying to wean him from his blankie (a.k.a. "pants") and when we tell him to put them on his bed he sometimes says "but what am I going to smell?" I guess when he's sucking his thumb and holding his blankie not only is it the feel of the material that he likes, but the smell. Interesting! Lately he's also decided that he likes to smell me, especially if he doesn't have his blankie. I guess I'm a good substitute "lovey". :o) He usually comes over and puts his head to my chest and takes a big ol' whiff and says "you smell good mommy!" Today I told him to go sniff his daddy and he laughed really loud and said "daddy doesn't smell good, only you do." I asked him what I smelled like and he said "you smell like you" and then he gave me a big kiss.

Yeah, well--another comment that comes out of his mouth at least daily is, "Mommy, you stink!"

David used to check his "geegah" (blankie) by putting it on his ear. If it felt right, it was a "geegah." Some people really are sensitive to smell...
