Brief February Reprieve
This past Thursday and Friday we had a brief reprieve in the winter weather. The temps on Friday got up into the mid 70's. We enjoyed having the windows open and breathing in the fresh air. After Jenna's naptime we took a family trip to the park.
Ian proclaimed that he was "king of the children" from on high.
Anytime Jenna sees a bench she says that she needs to take a break. (It's kinda cute, but can be annoying when you are trying to get somewhere.)

We thought it would've been nice if Great Grandpa Peterson were still alive for this exhibit. I'm sure he would've enjoyed describing all of the different things to Ian and telling him about his days working in a machine shop.
Every once in awhile we need to remind the kids how good they've got it!
We learned that there were lots of things that were invented in Maryland.
The kids enjoyed playing with the novelty that is a pay phone booth. It even had a rotary dial. Whoa....!!
They had some pretty cool stuff outside too!

It was a very windy day on Saturday! A couple of pictures up you'll notice that our hair is blowing pretty drastically to the side. I think they said we were having tropical storm type winds. Sustained winds around 40 mph with gusts 60-70 mph. By the water we really felt it. There were times when I had to push myself through the wind. By the end of our time outside Jenna was a bit nervous about being blown over. I can't really blame her.

The basketball and tennis courts were packed with the childless set trying to do the same. There was so much optimism in the air. The whole time I had to keep reminding myself "it's still February, it's still February, it's still February..."
On Saturday we went to the Baltimore Museum of Industry. What a fantastic museum! And free parking to boot (a rare thing for Baltimore museums.)

Most of our snow has finally melted away and now they're calling for 3-6" of snow overnight tonight. The predictions have been going up all day which makes me think we will probably end up with the higher amounts. I really want Spring to come quickly, but it looks like we will have to bide our time as usual. At least we're on the tail end of Winter!

Oh, sunny day!
Today it's supposed to get up to 65 degrees!!! Can I get a "woot-woot"!! So in honor of the lovely weather I decided to change the background of my blog. And since it didn't go with the Christmas picture (as much as I love it - what with my kids arms slung around each other) I figured I'd better post something new.
So, here it is. One big "WOOT-WOOT" for warmer weather! I know it's only supposed to last a few days so we'll try to enjoy it while we can. But, I am so excited that we are almost done with winter and that Spring is right around the corner!

Fall Fun!
Now that Autumn is truly upon us (I hope we've officially said good-bye to 95 degree days) we decided to take a trip to Larriland Farms. Other than being a tad windy the weather was gorgeous!
We started off by picking some apples.

We got "Stayman" apples for baking and "Braeburn" for eating raw. We LOVE apples!
Then we went on a hayride after meeting up with our friends Debby and Shannon. (Notice the huge bag of Kettle popcorn in Ian's hands! Yum!)
After lunch we walked around and took some pictures.
Then we ended up in the pumpkin patch.
Wait! How did so many kids end up in there? Trevor is such a good sport!
We finally found the perfect pumpkin! 16 pounds, baby!

Memorial Day Weekend
We had a fantastic Memorial Day weekend! It started appropriately with a Cub Scout event at the Baltimore National Cemetery. Over 2,000 Cub Scouts came to place flags in front of 56,000 military graves. It took all of 15 minutes! I know that Ian is still a little young to fully grasp the concept of what the event meant, but I hope this is only the first of many experiences where he can honor those who have served our country.
(So, is this where I tell you what Ian said after he placed the first flag in the ground? He said, "I think I hit a bone!" No disrespect to our servicemen and women! I just had to share.)
After the event we stopped at one of our new favorite ice cream places - The Ice Cream Cottage. You get one giant scoop of Hershey's ice cream for $1.45! Ian's new favorite is crazy vanilla. It tastes just like vanilla, but it's multi-colored. He's sooo crazy!
We had a very busy day on Saturday. Ian had his swim lessons at 9:30, then we went to the fishing derby at our church's pond for an hour, then we took Ian to a birthday party at a mini golf place. Here's some pics from the fishing derby! There was a nice guy there that helped Ian learn how to fish. He said that Ian was very attentive and followed directions well. He didn't end up catching anything (other than a branch and a turtle that jumped off the line right before he reeled it in), but he had a good time anyway. I was proud of him for not whining about the fact that he didn't catch anything since it seemed like everyone around him was catching at least one fish. We were also impressed with the patience that he showed as he watched his bobber for nibbles. He might just have that fishing gene in him afterall.
On Sunday we spent the afternoon with good friends grilling meat and hanging out. We took the kids to the park where Jenna spent the entire time swinging! I can hardly blame her. It was incredibly hot in the sun and I'm sure the breeze felt good. I couldn't take much of the heat. It was nice in the shade, but those swings were right out in the sun! I'm sure Karla thought I was a big wimp! She just returned from a year in Bahrain where it gets up to 120 in the summer!
We ended our weekend by going to Sandy Point Beach on Monday. We were originally planning on going to see the new Shrek movie, but when I saw the forecast I thought we should take advantage of the beautiful weather and head to the beach instead. I'm so glad we did! The kids had a fantastic time. Jenna loved everything about the beach! We were so happy that she didn't freak out over the waves or sand or anything like that. Granted, the waves there are nothing compared to the waves that we'll experience at Bethany Beach in July, but at least it was a nice practice run. Not only did she not freak out she reveled in every aspect!
Ian is doing so much better with the water! He went under several times and never flipped out like he would have last summer. I think the swim lessons are definitely paying off!
I can never get a picture of them both smiling at the same time!
